I've been a fan of Illiad's work, both book-based and web based (www.userfriendly.org) for a couple of years now. When it comes to the UserFriendly books, I compare them to my favorite, Evil Geniuses in a Nutshell. My opinion is that the core of User Friendly humor, the references to current events in the IT industry, was lacking in The Root. I found The Root to be not quite as funny as Evil Geniuses, but still a good read.

I give it a 7 out of 10.
